Wiental Terrace
Imagine a hanging terrace over a metro line and part of the river Vienna. Since autumn 2015 it is reality. Designed by Vienna-based architects Silja Tillner and Alfred Willinger, Wiental Terrace hosts an urban park of 1000 m2 – offering additional open space for Margareten, one of Viennas most dense boroughs. Using timber, introducing natural design and planting elements the terrace is a highly appreciated and frequented spot for lunch-time, leisure and spending warm evenings outdoors. It also served as an opportunity to improve the adjoining pedestrian and cycling long-distance connection between the western outer suburbs and the city center. Wiental Terrace is the first of altogether 3 projected terraces along metro line U4 and the river and a smart solutions for dense city areas exemplifying Viennas pocket park strategy.
